Levels
Before beginning any course, everyone does a level placement assessment. This includes speaking, writing and grammar / vocabulary. ELC uses the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) as our level system.
We advise and support you if you are falling behind. We also recognise speedy progress and make sure you ‘jump up’ a level if appropriate.
Level | Duration | Cambridge | IELTS | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Basic User | A1 | 100 Hours | Starters / Movers (YLE) | |
A2 | 100 Hours | Flyers (YLE) / Key (KET) | ||
Independent User | B1 | 100 Hours | 4 - 4.5 | |
B1+ | 100 Hours | Preliminary (PET) | 4.5 - 5 | |
B2 | 200 Hours | First / First for Schools (FCE) | 5 - 6.5 | |

As well as the 100 hours of class time, teachers set weekly homework. Progress also depends on:
- Exposure to English outside class (speaking, reading, listening)
- Self-study (reviewing lessons / doing homework).
If absent, please email us and we will send the work you missed.
