Levels
Before beginning any course, everyone does a level placement assessment. This includes speaking, writing and grammar / vocabulary. ELC uses the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) as our level system. We advise and support you if you are falling behind. We also recognise speedy progress and make sure you ‘jump up’ a level if appropriate.
If you need to do an official CAPLE exam, please inform us. On successfully passing your course, we issue official certificates from DGERT. However, for citizenship applications, the official exam should be done at the university. We can give you advice on enrollment and offer you Private Exam Preparation Courses.
Level | Duration | CAPLE | |
---|---|---|---|
Basic User | A1 | 100 Hours | |
A2 | 100 Hours | CIPLE | |
Independent User | B1 | 100 Hours | |
B1+ | 100 Hours | DEPLE | |
B2 | 200 Hours | DIPLE | |
Proficient User | C1 | 200 Hours | DUPLE |

As well as the 100 hours of class time, teachers set weekly homework. Progress also depends on:
- Exposure to English outside class (speaking, reading, listening)
- Self-study (reviewing lessons / doing homework).
If absent, please email us and we will send the work you missed.
